2. Disable windows file protection
posted by ROHIT
This tip is quite useful if you like messing with Windows system files but hate restarting into safe mode every time you want to try something. It is especially useful for swapping your uxtheme.dll for a hacked one that will let you use skins.
Here’s how to swap out one file for another.
To do this, you need to know how exactly Windows protects its files. It stores copies of the protected files in x:windowsServicePackFilesi386.
When you change a file, it just moves the copy it has to replace whatever you changed. The following instructions need to be done twice, once to replace the backup in x:windowsServicePackFilesi386, a second time to replace the original in x:windowssystem32.
First, locate your target file and back it up! Copy it somewhere and rename it to a.bak. Next, rename your replacement file, (if you are swapping uxtheme.dll, name it uxtheme1.dll) and copy it to the target directory.
Now Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task.
Manager and end the process explorer.exe. Your taskbar should disappear. Switch to the Applications pane and click New Task, the Browse. Browse to your directory, and rename the file you want to replace (i.e. uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.bak), then rename your new file (uxtheme1.dll to uxtheme.dll).
Do the rename dance again in x:windowssystem32 and you are all set.
That’s it! Hit cancel, then type explorer and hit enter. Windows doesn’t even know the difference!
3.DISABLE XP SPLASH SCREEN
It is possible to disable XP splash screen, which will slightly speed up the overall boot process.
Be aware that removing the splash screen will also cause you not to see any boot-up messages that might come up (chkdsk, convert ... ), but if your system runs without any problems then it should not matter.
1. Edit boot.ini
2. Add " /noguiboot" right after "/fastdetect".
Upon restarting, the splash screen will be gone.
It can be re-enabled by removing the new switch.
4.SPEED UP XP BY ENABLING DISKCACHE
Diskcache plays a very important role in WinXP. However, the default I/O pagefile setting of XP is conservative, which limits the performance.
Some better values for different RAM are given below.
1. Run "regedit";
2. Goto [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementIoPageLockLimit];
3. Modify the value in Hex depending on the size of your RAM:
RAM: modified value(Hex)
64M: 1000;
128M: 4000;
256M: 10000;
512M or more: 40000.
4. Reboot.
5.ENABLE TASK MANAGER

Step by Step Methods for Fixing Task Manager
Task Manager Has Been Disabled, How to Fix It?
Many times when working on a computer that has been infected with a virus, trojan, or piece of spyware I find myself with the Task Manager being disabled. Malware creators like to disable Task Manager so it makes solving the problem and removing the issue difficult.
If this happens you'll normally have to edit the Windows registry to fix the problem. A restriction has been placed on the user to not allow them to run Task Manager, this might be ok in an office environment where the IT department wants to control things, but in a home office this can cause major problems trying to fix a malware or virus issue.
Listed below you will find the many ways to reenable Task Manager along with an automatic method that works wonders.
